Well, when thinking about my blog work this month, I decided that I would cover hidden journaling - as an A4 scrapper, the smaller paper surface means I often find it hard to include the all-important story without compromising my design, so I often turn to hidden or secret journaling to ensure my story is documented within the page.
However, there's a bit more behind my title too.......
vanishing ink pen. I was confused by its arrival as I was sure I hadn't ordered it.....however the mystery was soon solved when I realised that one of the fantastic new functions of the shopping cart on the revamped shop website is that it keeps anything you place in your bag until you check out, even if you don't make a purchase on that day, and pop back in between. Before the new site went live, the DT had a little play and test - and I must have randomly added the pen to my shopping cart when trying all the new features out...and forgotten about it! So I set about thinking of ways my little "surprise" could help me in my crafting.....
Some of you may know that 2013 is going to be a pretty big year for me, as this Summer I'll be saying "I do" to the very lovely Mr T. The countdown is flying past, plans are in full swing, and I feel it's important to document all our hard work and preparation along the way to look back on in the future. My first page this month is about our Save the Dates, and what a massive project they became!
My supplies included:
papers from the new MME Collectable Range
This gorgeous heart kraft paper from Elle's Studio - so perfect for our colour scheme I ordered more than one ;)
I began by creating the pocket for my hidden journaling, which was going to be written on tags. Wanting to work quickly and easily, I grabbed a roll of washi tape that was on my desk. I cut three strips long enough to cover three sides of my photo, and folded them inwards on themselves along the strip, to create a hinge effect.
Jillybean Kraft alphas to each to indicate the order they should be read.
and to make a hand-written guide for some stitched title work:
This little stamp in the Elle's Studio set is so usable, you may be seeing a lot of it on my pages over the next few months! The two different colours were simply achieved by stamping twice without reinking.
My second page documents the menu tasting afternoon we had....it took forever to whittle down the beautiful menu to just three choices, but we got there eventually!
Additional supplies to my first page include:
In her last post, Helen used washi tape to create a concertina effect with her photos to fit more on her page, which sparked my hidden journaling idea here. I wanted to create almost a paper-chain of hearts that could be folded and unfolded on my page to reveal our chosen menu for the Big Day.
I began by printing each of the courses onto A4 matt photo paper, each in a heart shape as a cutting guide.
I roughly cut the hearts out, leaving them joined together; concentrating on the pointed lower parts but leaving the tops for the next step. I made a firm crease on the area that joined each heart so that they could be folded on top of each other.
It also provided some inspiration for my date and location information at the bottom left hand of my page, which I created by layering lots of different washi tapes on top of each other.
No page of mine would be complete without little cluster of embellishments, which were popped on top of a strip of the pink reverse of the Elle's Studio kraft paper. I also hand cut a few circles from the MME "Hello" paper and slipped them underneath the strip to create a soft, romantic border.
Thank you for popping by, we would love to see your hidden journaling ideas! Pop a link to your work in the comments section :)
